CARDROSS
Having been shortlisted for the renovation of the iconic St.Peters Seminary at Cardross by Gillespie Kidd and Coia, Our main architectural intentions were to address the conservation issues and the resultant visual impact, in particular that of reinforced concrete, aswell as an approach adopted to the preservation of modenist ruins. In addition, SHA was interested in adapting the brief by which new audiences and activites may be attracted to and function within the site without affecting the latter.
The proposal treats the building as a central body of cells with a collection of specific parts ‘plugged in’ to deal with the required activites, such as an information kiosk, lift and interpretation space. The design is extended to cater for the new uses within a family of pre-fabricated components- strategically places within the framework of the conrete structure.
