Sagaponack on Long Island has been established as a fertile territory for Architects to explore ideas of ‘House’ within this densely wooded peninsular.
Each house has to carve out its own territory within a series of plots within the dense forest of Pin oaks.
The central idea of the courtyard tree house is to exploit this quality of the exterior room defined by the forest and to contain within these rooms a circular entrance court yard and a rectilinear court containing the house.
The house is organised over two main levels the ground floor is a mass concrete structure containing entrance and service courtyards and expansive terraces enjoying the protection of the forest. This is surmounted by an elevated wooden ring or loggia which describes the upper courtyard within the tree canopy.
This elevated court allows these spaces to all enjoy more light and air within the dark forest with further gardens and decks contained on the roofscape.
