Sutherland Hussey Harris were short-listed in collaboration with Tsinghua Design Institute to develop designs for a new National Botanic Museum in the city of Kunming in Yunnan Province, China.

The site, an elongated valley with established forest, is used to create a journey for visitors. This begins with an orientation centre in the South of the site, which leads through the forest and new gardens proposed, to the main museum building which houses the research, visitor and educational facilities.

The site houses a discreet, concealed hotel which allows the museum to facilitate stays for guests as well as for visiting researchers, botanists and zoologists.
